Tea & Biscuits

Print

What has an old tea chest and a biscuit tin got in common?

Well they are the preferred instruments of the two hottest buskers to be seen in Newport for many a year.

The Admin of this site plays the upturned tea chest as a double bass and Rick plays Blues slide on the biscuit tin that has been converted into a 3 string guitar and is plugged into a portable amp. Together they pump out great sounding blues and rockabilly tunes to entertain high street shoppers, hopefully lifting some of the mundane drudge as they go from shop to shop.

Both having been in umpteen bands here on the Island over the years and also being old hands at busking Cowes Week, starting way back in the days when the law would move them on, they decided that the Island has a lack of street entertainment outside of big events and so aim to bring music to the High Street of Island towns regularly, weather permitting of course.

If you were in Cowes during the last Bank Holiday Monday, you may have seen them outside the old Woollies store in the High Street. This was their first of 3 outings together to date, the second being the following day in St. Thomas' Square amongst the market traders, the third was today in Newport High Street outside Pound Land.
Unfortunately rain stopped play today, but weather permitting they intend to be at the market on Tuesday, so come along and as in the words in one of the tunes they play 'Shake Your Money Maker' into their hat.
