Captain Marvel came to theaters this past Friday, and it’s already breaking records with its instant success. The film’s box office debut soared to $455 million worldwide this weekend in ticket sales, including $153 million in North America.
The global launch’s success surpasses Beauty and the Beast ($357 million) and is the second-largest for a comic book adaptation coming in behind Avengers: Infinity War ($640.5 million). It is also the sixth-biggest worldwide opening ever, and beats Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($281 million) with a $302 million international opening.
DC’s Wonder Woman made history with $103 million during its first weekend, but now Captain Marvel surpasses that too.
