The Switch has had an incredibly successful 2018 in terms of hardware and software sales. The hybrid system finished the year as the best selling hardware in North America and game sales have been breaking records, even at the price of $300, traditionally thought to be above the threshold for mainstream adoption. It seems like Nintendo is not eager to shake things up too heavily, at least according to the company’s president Shuntaro Furukawa.
In an interview with Japanese newspaper The Sankei News and translated by Nintendo Everything, Furukawa is sticking to his guns on the 20 million units prediction for the Switch he made for this financial year. With Christmas over and another few months to go, though, the question has to be asked if Furukawa plans to incentivize new Switch sales through a price cut or revision.
“It is an extremely ambitious, but worthwhile achievement,” Furukawa said. “So, we will maintain this goal. Nintendo Switch is our primary sales objective, and we are not considering a successor or a price cut at this time.”
It seems pretty cut-and-dry there. Despite rumors circulating that Switch will either get a price cut this year or a new revision in the later half of 2019, Furukawa is flat out denying it. Nintendo should be reporting their Q3 financial results later this month.

The only thing more certain than a Nintendo denial is the tradition that, if they deny something so flatly, they are probably actually doing it.
